Today is a year since the tragedy that struck a young Nebraska family when their young son was dragged by an alligator while playing on the beach of a Disney park in Orlando.

Now, Walt Disney World plans to pay tribute to the child under 2 years old by installing a sculpture in his memory in the vicinity of the property where the events occurred.

Lane Graves was playing with a plastic bucket scooping sand from the banks of the Seven Seas Lagoon of the Grand Floridian hotel in World Disney World, when suddenly an alligator came out and dragged him with his jaws. The father of the minor, who was near the boy taking care of his little sister, immediately jumped into the waters and although he fought against the beast, he was unable to rescue his son.

Immediately, the park became the scene of a hunt to locate the boy and find the dangerous beast. Sixteen hours later, the minor was found dead.

The impressive operation included hundreds of police officers, a professional alligator hunter, divers, and even sonar.

After the tragedy, the child's parents, Melissa and Matt Graves, established the Lane Thomas Foundation, to honor the memory of their son. The family also made news by announcing that they declined the option of suing the park for what happened, focusing, they said, "on the future health of the family."

"To continue providing support to the foundation and disseminating its mission, we have commissioned an original sculpture of the lighthouse that uses the foundation as a symbol of love and hope, to be installed on our property this summer," he said in a sent statement. to the Orlando Sentinel George A. Kalogridis, President of Walt Disney World Resort.
