A Texas mom has released a notice about the alleged danger of fidget spinners, the little devices known as 'restless spinners', after her daughter nearly choked on one of the tiny pieces of the popular toy.
Kelly Rose Joniec, a Houston, TX resident, was on her way home from a swimming lesson on Saturday when she heard her 10-year-old daughter Britton suffocate in the back seat, the mom explained in a Facebook post..
She looked in her rearview mirror and saw her daughter's face flushed and the drool coming out of her mouth. He stopped and realized that his daughter had swallowed one of the pieces of her fidget spinner.
"He pointed to his throat saying he had swallowed something, so I tried to [practice the maneuver] Heimlich," Joniec wrote. "He said he had put part of his fidget spinner in his mouth to clean it and somehow swallowed it."
After trying to make him eject the piece, the woman took her daughter to a nearby emergency center. An x-ray revealed that the metal object was lodged in the girl's esophagus. é½xo ^ ñîwmîßõ¾¶onú߶ºÛgöÕí = ë¶Û
"Britton had an operation in the operating room to endoscopically locate and remove the object. Fortunately we had a positive result, but it was quite alarming there for a time … not just because of the initial ingestion, but because of concern about the composition and structure of the object and, finally, the risk from general anesthesia, "wrote Joniec.
Fortunately, the intervention was successful.
A fidget spinner is a three-pronged piece of plastic or metal that rotates around a fixed central disc. Although they are sold as an instrument to reduce stress, they have become popular with children, to the point that they have been banned in some schools.
