A dead person and a dozen injuries is the preliminary balance left by a vehicle that hit the crowd on Thursday in the heart of Times Square, one of the busiest points in New York.

According to various sources and witnesses, a subject who was driving his Honda vehicle around 12:00 pm EST, skipped the protection that separates pedestrian traffic and ran over the pedestrians he found in his path.

In the images of the place of the event you can see the maroon author on his side and blowing smoke from his front, mounted on top of one of the protective barriers. You could also see several people lying on the ground who were attended by other pedestrians and the emergency services.

So far, the New York Fire Department has confirmed via Twitter that one person has died and 19 others have been injured.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio reported that the incident does not appear to be a terrorist attack at this time and confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was arrested.

The man was identified by police as Richard Rojas, a 26-year-old Bronx resident with a history of drunk driving. Police sources indicated to various media that he is suspected of being drunk, so tests are being carried out on them.

"Everyone was running, everyone was concerned about their lives," a witness told CBS about what happened at the junction of 45th Street with Broadway.
