Ricardo Medina Jr., star of the Power Rangers Wild Force and Power Rangers Samurai series, was sentenced to six years in prison on Wednesday for the murder of his roommate Josh Sutter.
On January 31, 2015, after a fight over the 38-year-old actor's girlfriend, he grabbed a samurai sword and stabbed Sutter multiple times, killing him.
Initially Medina Jr. assured the authorities that it was a case of self-defense, that they arrested him anyway immediately after the crime.
Subsequently, the prosecution released him, since the case was rejected. When it seemed like a closed case, Medina Jr. was arrested once again almost a year later, on January 14, 2016, as a murderer by the Los Angeles County Attorney's office, Jackie Lacey.
Given the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars, the actor agreed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in exchange for receiving a reduced prison sentence of a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 11.
On Wednesday, Judge Daviann Mitchell of the Los Angeles Superior Court in Antelope Valley imposed a 6-year-old Medina Jr. conviction behind bars.
Donald Sutter, father of the victim, assured that his son never had the intention of attacking Medina Jr. "Josh did not have in his heart to attack anyone," he told the judge, according to Variety.
Sutter added that "from now on we hope that everyone who takes a look at Ricardo will never see him as a star, but as what he is: a murderer in cold blood," said the victim's father, in collected statements. by Deadline.com.
According to this medium, there is a possibility that Medina Jr. could be released on parole in three years.
The two series of the Power Rangers franchise that Medina Jr. starred in are unrelated to the film recently released in theaters.
