Iowa State Congressman Steve King is in the midst of a controversy generated by a message he posted this weekend on his Twitter account that has been branded by many as racist.

The criticized message referred to a cartoon by Geert Wilders, a Dutch prime minister candidate who has openly expressed his position against the Muslim community.

Wilders understands that our culture and demographics are our destiny. We cannot restore our civilization with the babies of others”, reads the text published next to the drawing that shows the Dutch politician as the savior of the western world.

According to a report released by The Huffington Post online site, King's text not only hints at the well-known white supremacist ideology, it was also a message against the children of Muslim immigrants.

The controversy generated on social networks led journalistic media such as CNN to seek an explanation from the same representative about what he wanted to express with his controversial tweet.

"I wanted to say exactly what I said," King replied to journalist Chris Cuomo of the news network when he questioned him about his message shared on the networks. "We cannot rebuild your civilization with the babies of others," he added again.

Cuomo went a little further and asked the congressman if his position with respect to the country's population was to restore the predominance of the white race.

"I would like to see a United States that is homogeneous and that we all look the same," said the Republican in this regard.

One of the people who raised their voices against the congressman's controversial words was Ana Navarro, strategist for the Republican Party. "Steve King is being the pathetic little racist he always is," he said in conversation with CNN on the matter.

"This man has been in Congress for seven terms, 14 years, and his only way to get attention is to be racist by making these kinds of disparaging remarks," added Navarro in his strong remarks against King.

It is not the first time that King has found himself in the middle of a controversy over his comments against immigrants. In November 2016, the Republican caused outrage with his statements about the dreamers.

“Inside the so-called dreamers there are some terribly bad people. These dreamers are up to 37 or 38 years old and maybe older. That, if they tell the truth."
