Venezuelan skier Adrián Solano, who admitted that until recently he had never seen snow, has become a famous character after a video of his poor performance in a competition in Finland triumphed on the networks.

The images of the 22-year-old athlete falling repeatedly and showing very little skill in the specialty of Nordic skiing that he disputed have earned him the nickname of "the worst skier in history", although others have highlighted his sportsmanship and his courage for facing a challenge for which he did not seem prepared.

Solano's adventures began when he landed in Paris in order to arrive in Sweden, where he was due to train a month before the Nordic World Ski Championships were held in the Finnish town of Lahti.

The French authorities doubted that he was a legitimate skier and deported him. The young man admitted to the AFP agency that he had not seen the snow before and had trained with wheeled skiing in Venezuela.

"I only had 28 euros with me when I arrived in Paris and the police thought I was fleeing my country because things are going wrong," he told AFP. "They discriminated against me because of my clothes, my face, my appearance."

The persevering athlete finally managed to get to Finland to compete, although in one test he could not finish and in another he was last at a long distance from the rest of the skiers. His poor performance has made him the target of ridicule.

“I have participated with a disadvantage. I have lost a month of practice”, defended himself in the press Solano, who in any case assured that he had fulfilled a dream and set himself the challenge of participating in the next Winter Olympics.

After learning about the treatment received by the athlete in Paris, the Venezuelan Government came to his defense. Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez assured that they will send a note of protest to their French colleagues.
