Marisa Moreno Bernat, the granddaughter of the late comedian Cantinflas, faced her still husband Alain Meder in a court in Mexico, who gave her a terrible beating in September 2015 that sent her to the hospital and left her with aftermath.
The young woman was found the day of the events on the floor of a service room in a pool of blood. According to the Mexican press, in the hospital to which she was transferred, she was diagnosed with severe facial trauma, cervical sprain and 200 fractures to the face.
The 23-year-old, who spent a long time in hospital recovering from injuries, acknowledged that it was difficult to face her attacker, but doing so was a necessary step. "This helps me overcome many things, it makes me stronger," he said before entering the courtroom in statements collected on Monday by the Ventaneando program (TV Azteca).
He also explained that physically he feels better, despite having titanium plates and scars on his body, although the terrible experience left its aftermath. "I would love to tell you that I'm fine, but all these kinds of things have trauma and psychological things, physically I'm perfect, but trying some things."
Meder, from whom he is still in the process of divorce, is currently at liberty, after having been in prison, according to the Mexican press.
Moreno Bernat assured that he was facing with "maturity and spiritual strength" the fact that his ex was no longer behind bars. However, the young woman's mother, Tita Marbez, showed her displeasure with the Mexican legal system and found it alarming that Meder remained at large.
