The Trump administration is considering a plan to bar the entry of potential immigrants who may require public assistance upon arrival in the country and to deport, when possible, immigrants already living in the United States who depend on taxpayer-funded social services, according to a draft of an executive order obtained by The Washington Post.
A second Trump order urges a substantial modification to the system by which the United States manages visas for immigrants and non-immigrants in order to increase control over who enters the country and who can obtain a work permit, and reduce social spending..
The projects are being processed within the administration and it is yet to be decided whether President Donald Trump will finally sign them. The White House has neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the orders, according to the newspaper.
If enacted, executive orders appear to significantly restrict all types of immigration and foreign travel to the United States, multiplying the barriers imposed by last week's immigration ban.
Its enactment aligns with President Trump's claims during his campaign in which he accused immigrants of consuming taxpayer-funded federal social services and contributing to the unemployment of American citizens.
