An Iraqi-born man who worked for the United States government revealed that his mother died a day after he was denied entry to the country by President Donald J. Trump's decree not to allow travelers to enter the United States. from some nations with a predominantly Muslim population.
Mike Hager told FOX 2 Detroit that he had traveled to his native Iraq with several members of his family - who are permanent residents and have a green card -, before Trump's order was issued.
During the trip, her mother fell ill. As the family was preparing to return home from Iraq in Michigan, they were turned away at the airport and the only one who could board a plane back was Hager. The next day, the troubled man said, his mother died.
Hager's family had a real ordeal by fleeing Iraq during the Gulf War years of the 1990s. The clan had to live in a refugee camp until it was finally hosted by the United States.
Years later, Hager decided to return to Iraq in the service of the United States Special Forces, working as an interpreter and adviser.
The man says that if he had returned home, his mother would have received the treatment she needed.
