The death of a Dominican woman who fell into a vacuum during an assault on a Bronx apartment has been classified as a murder by police, who are now searching for those responsible for her death.

The events occurred on March 3 when María Carolina Sánchez-Tiburcio, 43, was working cleaning an apartment located on Grand Concourse Avenue in the New York neighborhood.

Two subjects slammed into the home at around 3 p.m. possibly with the intention of stealing, and were later seen fleeing in horror, according to the New York Daily News.

"I opened the door and one of them with a mask raised his face, looked at me and jumped over a railing," said a witness who wanted to remain anonymous. "The other went down, jumped down a step and fell [at the door] of my house."

The woman fell into the void through one of the apartment's windows, causing trauma to her head and body. Police are trying to determine if the victim was pushed by the thieves or jumped from the scare.

The victim was found unconscious in the back alley of the building. Authorities officially announced her death on Wednesday and classified it as a homicide.
