Mexican Stars Against Trump's Wall

With the red-hot border wall controversy, Mexican actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna echoed the feelings of many of their compatriots angered by the proposal of President Donald Trump.

Both stars, who have developed a long career in Hollywood and are a frequent presence at major industry awards, went to the networks to oppose the project promoted by the White House and which forced Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to cancel their meeting of the next tuesday with the magnate.

The first was the protagonist of Mozart in the Jungle, who launched a philosophical tweet early Wednesday asking what can be done to counter Trump's orders.

Within minutes, his friend and protagonist of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sent another tweet, this time in English, assuring that "the response to this sinister character has to be as overwhelming and convincing as the ignorance and stubbornness that he throws"

"Everyone needs to get involved!" He added.

Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to begin planning for the wall, one of his top electoral promises. In a subsequent interview with the ABC network, he assured the project will be launched in "months" and that Mexico will pay its cost, in one way or another.

That triggered Peña Nieto's reaction, to which the magnate replied this Thursday with the possibility that they would cancel the meeting they had scheduled. Hours later, the Aztec president confirmed that the meeting was canceled.

The president-signed order also increases federal efforts to deport undocumented immigrants and threatens the transfer of federal funds to so-called sanctuary cities that protect the undocumented.
