A young American who survived the attack on the Queen of Istanbul club revealed how he managed to get out alive from the shooting that left 39 dead and has plunged Turkey into mourning again.
Jake Raak, 35, of Delaware, told NBC News that he was celebrating the arrival of the New Year at the aforementioned nightclub with nine other friends when rumors began to circulate that there was a murderer in the premises, to whom They ignored.
"Someone said shots had been fired and I initially didn't believe it until I saw the killer and started shooting everywhere," Raak explained.
When the murderer, who has not been captured so far, approached him, the young man remained on the ground with his head under a bench and his legs exposed. Then the gunman shot him in the hip.
Raak remained motionless, pretending to be dead and trying with all his might not to scream or move after being shot at point-blank range.
"[The gunman] was walking on the bench [located] above my head," he explained. "When he shot me, I didn't move. I just let him shoot me.”
The bullet penetrated his hip and lodged in his knee. According to People they indicate that Raak is stable and ready to travel to the United States this week.
"I think I was one of the luckiest of all this, I feel very lucky," he said. "He was with nine people, seven of us were shot."
Turkish authorities have put in place an extensive security device to arrest the subject who carried out the massacre, who has been identified as an alleged ISIS militant.
At the moment, two people have been arrested, including the suspect's wife, whom he has said never showed sympathy for the Islamic terror group.
