Relatives of the insane old man who was shot to death yesterday morning by a Bakersfield, California, police officer are demanding an investigation into why his father was killed.

In a video posted on his Facebook account, the victim's son, Rogelio Roy Serna, asked for "the truth" while explaining: "My father was killed by the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD) with nine shots fired at her body. My father was not armed. He never had a gun."

As reported by the Los Angeles Times newspaper, the police in that city received a call in the early hours of Monday, indicating that there was someone armed in a neighborhood in that Californian city. When authorities arrived, one of his agents found Francisco Serna in front of a house and shot him repeatedly. The 73-year-old man was pronounced dead at 1:15 am yesterday.

Despite the original call saying there was a subject with a gun in the area, the old man was unarmed. "He was a 73-year-old retired grandfather just living his life," his son told the Los Angeles Times. "At this age he should have been surrounded by his family, not bullets."

According to his family, Serna suffered from the early stages of dementia, and that is why the police had visited his house recently, since he would have activated a medical alarm, but never due to acts of violence.

Her son organized a vigil in memory of his father and at the same time request that his death be clarified.
