An Argentine plastic surgeon was arrested by the Mendoza authorities last Friday accused of being responsible for the death of one of his patients, according to the newspaper Clarín.
Carlos Arzuza, 48, operated a clandestine clinic in the heart of the provincial capital, where he had undergone surgery on his penis to try to lengthen it, shortly before being arrested by the police.
Precisely because of the injuries that he had self-inflicted, Arzuza had to be transferred to a hospital, since he presented with early gangrene in the genital area.
Along with the doctor, his assistant, Laura Dutta, was also arrested. Both are accused of medical malpractice that resulted in the death of Beatriz Gattari, who underwent liposuction and a butt implant operation.
Gattari was found by her boyfriend dying at home, due to complications resulting from the intervention.
Arzuza, who is the head of the surgery service at the Tupungato hospital, already had a history of the death of another patient in 2013, when a man died after undergoing liposuction. Arzuza was convicted of simple homicide, but was released after posting bail.
