Authorities are holding an Ohio plastic surgeon in custody for allegedly drugging several patients to unconsciousness, sexually abusing them, and recording the pressures on video.
Dr. Manish Gupta was arrested Friday afternoon and sent to the Lucas County Jail in Toledo after a search of his phone, residence, and offices resulted in incriminating evidence, according to the New York Post.
Some of the items found in the records are sex toys, camera equipment, storage devices like SD cards, and controlled substances like Ketamine and Diazepam, according to authorities.
Ketamine is an anesthetic that induces a trance state while providing relief from pain, sedation, and memory loss. While diazepam has calming, sedative, and anticonvulsant effects.
According to legal documents filed in federal court in Toledo, the 49-year-old surgeon had previously been accused of sexual abuse. In 2016, he had allegedly abused a woman identified as KB, who she alleges had relations with the accused, but declined to be recorded. He claims that after his first meeting, he was drugged until he almost lost consciousness and was subsequently sexually abused.
The New York Daily News indicates that the same whistleblower began investigating on her own and found an internet database used by sex workers to report dangerous complaints to clients of a suspected perpetrator with a description that matched the of the surgeon.
Another episode revealed by authorities, according to the Post, dates back to 2014, when one of Gupta's employees reportedly found videos showing the plastic surgeon performing sexual acts with immobile women who appeared unconscious.
The newspaper adds that on February 12, the Ohio medical board received a complaint against Gupta accusing him of drugging and raping patients for years.
