A 16-year-old boy from Massachusetts is the main suspect in the macabre murder of a classmate, Lee Manuel Viloria-Paulino, whose body was dismembered.

A woman who walked with her dog last Thursday along the Merrimack River in the town of Lawrence was the one who discovered the body of the young man, who had been missing for two weeks. Her head was found 50 feet away and her arms were missing, according to local press.

District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett identified the suspect arrested in connection with the crime as Mathew Borges. Authorities found evidence linking him to the murder at his home, and he was arrested on Saturday, The Eagle Tribune newspaper reported.

The last time Viloria-Paulino was seen alive was on November 18. After failing to return home, his family notified the authorities of his disappearance.

At a press conference, her grandmother Ivelisse Cornielle lamented that the authorities, in her opinion, did not act more quickly “We are poor, we are Hispanic, they considered that he had run away from home. From the first day I told them that was not the case,”he said, after highlighting that the local police put more interest in the case when state agents were involved.

Blodgett pointed out that Borges will be charged with first degree murder and that he will be tried as an adult. They were both classmates at Lawrence High School, according to the prosecutor, but it is unknown if the arrested man attended school regularly.
