The search for Harley Dilly, a missing teenager in Ohio, ended in tragedy. The 14-year-old student was found dead inside a fireplace. The young man was last seen alive when he was walking to school on December 20. Police found his body Monday night inside the fireplace of an abandoned house. According to reports, it appears to be an accident, although the case is still under investigation. Port Clinton Police Chief Robert Hickman revealed the tragic news at a press conference. "This was not the ending we wanted," he admitted, shaken.

The house where Harley's body was found showed no signs of forced entry and had windows and doors closed. Hickman said the property is a vacant summer house that is being renovated. According to the officer, Harley's coat and eyeglasses were found on the second floor of the house, next to a brick fireplace.

"Harley apparently climbed onto the roof of the house and entered through the fireplace," said Hickman, adding that the teenager allegedly pushed his glasses out of the fireplace but was unable to get out himself, as he was trapped in the narrow structure. The Ottawa County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was compression suffocation.

The boy walked to school and told his mother that he was not feeling well. His parents reportedly took his cell phone away when he disappeared and he could have been upset about it, Hickman said at a previous press conference. The family sent a message through the police department in December, asking the community for help finding their son. "We pray that our son will return home safely," says the message, which asked the teenager to return home because his parents loved and missed him.
