The former Mexican-American boxer Oscar de la Hoya has been one of the Latino celebrities who has come forward to help others during the coronavirus health crisis.
The multi-champion announced Friday that he and his family have donated a quarter of a million dollars to help his favorite hospital in Los Angeles defray unexpected expenses incurred during the pandemic.
“Adventist Health White Memorial is my hospital and my family's. They took care of my mother when she was fighting breast cancer. During this time of crisis White Memorial is incurring extraordinary expenses while continuing to provide high quality care to our community here in Los Angeles [California],”said De la Hoya through her social networks. "My family and I are donating $ 250,000 to White Memorial to help with these critical and unexpected expenses."
The former boxer also challenged his famous colleagues and friends to imitate his gesture and help institutions that are doing everything possible to save lives.
"I want to [challenge] my peers, celebrities, athletes, business leaders, and community leaders to also donate to White Memorial or your local hospital to help during this crisis."
This is not the first time that De la Hoya has raised his voice for a noble cause. Since his rise to fame, the also businessman has continued to help his community through different organizations and projects - or by raising funds for different causes for the benefit of the neediest.
