The Pope Francisco missed a Mass scheduled for Thursday in Rome with several religious because it has health problems, the Vatican announced.

According to a statement from that state, the 83-year-old high priest has a "slight indisposition", so he preferred to stay at his residence in Santa Marta.

The Pope was supposed to celebrate a mass of penance in the Basilica of San Juan de Letrán, located at one end of the Vatican, in order to start Lent with some religious a day after having distributed ashes to the faithful in the Basilica of Saint Peter. The Pope also greeted several of the attendees by the hand and even kissed a baby who was present during his tour of St. Peter's Square.

During the mass, he was seen cleaning his nose and coughing several times, which caught the attention of the parishioners. In itself, parts of northern Italy have been under quarantine after hundreds of cases of people affected by the coronavirus were reported, people for whom the Pope raised his prayers during mass on Ash Wednesday.

"I wish, once again, to express my closeness to those who are sick with coronavirus, as well as to the health workers who are in charge of taking care of them," said the Pope, according to Radio Formula.

At the moment, the Vatican has not yet offered more details on the health of the religious. Nearly 370 cases of coronavirus and 12 deaths attributed to that virus have been reported in Italy.
