For Julissa Prado, having curly hair has been a blessing, one that helped her become an entrepreneur and represent thousands of women who have the same texture and who are looking to be proud of hair. But it was not always like this for the Mexican American businesswoman, who grew up crushing her hair because she could not find the right products to take advantage of her curls. It was that same reason that years later led her to create her own line of products so that the girls who, like her, could not find the necessary tools to treat and maintain their curly hair.
“For me the reason I started [my line] was because I crippled my hair almost all my life and I grew up in predominantly Latino communities. My whole family, my community, most had naturally wavy, curly hair and almost all of them had it crippled. It was because they didn't understand how to fix their natural hair and there were no products that worked on their hair,”says the young creator of the Rizos Curls hair line. "What my product does is that those people who are [transitioning] from battered, damaged to starting to use it curly need more help to get their hair to start curling more."
Now the businesswoman celebrates another achievement, having five of the main products in her Rizos Curls line in more than 120 Target stores in the United States, as well as Target.com.
