With only 27 years old and about 20 soap operas on her resume, the Venezuelan actress Kimberly dos Ramos tells us about her experience giving life to Maribel in the highly anticipated remake of Rubí, the looks of adolescence she would like to forget and her impressive routine of care … skin like yours is not available overnight
How did you feel when you knew you would be part of the new Rubí remake?
Very happy. When I did the casting they didn't tell me exactly what character he was. It was all a mystery. Later, when they sent me the story and I knew it would be Maribel [Rubí's best friend], of course I said I was delighted. It was a very nice surprise, it is a very iconic project in Mexico and one that people loved at the time.
Have you been in contact with Jacky Bracamontes, who played the same role in the original version of the novel fifteen years ago?
No, not yet, but I would love to talk to her about how she felt it and how she lived it in her day. Obviously this is a remake and it's a slightly different adaptation. Many things have been changed and the characters [too]. It is more current.
What do you have in common with your character?
We are completely different, we have in common perhaps the noble heart and that we like to help people, and treat others well, but the rest do not. Maribel is a very insecure person due to the disability she suffers, her left leg had to be amputated due to an accident and she has lived through many difficult things.
What was your biggest dream before you started in the world of soap operas?
It was very crazy because I started out so young, at 4 years old, that I think that since I can remember I realized that was what I wanted to do. My passions were acting and fashion design, I was very aware of what I was wearing, the designs, it caught my attention a lot.
What have you learned about fashion and style after so many years on camera?
To let myself be carried more by the character than by my own style [when I'm working]. Many times a mix of how she dresses in real life with the fashion of the character and no, you have to let her dress and dress as she is, even if you do not like it personally.
What is your style like when you are not working?
I like the basic colors: white, black and red. I always try to incorporate a more fashionable trend, but above all I like to be comfortable. I don't like tight clothes. [I usually wear] jeans, a white t-shirt and some sneakers or, if I'm going out, high heels. But my style is very simple.
If you could give your teen self some advice, what would it be?
[At that age] I loved putting on extra makeup, putting on a lot of shade to look older, to be able to enter this or that place, and look older. I would say no, do not waste time with it, enjoy your skin as it is and without having to appear an age that is not. Definitely less is more and is much more comfortable.
Speaking of whether or not to appear age … your skincare routine is very exhaustive. What does it consist of?
In that I do invest because for our work you have makeup on your face for many hours. I take it seriously. I wake up and wash my face with two types of soaps, then I use a toner, then the moisturizer. I alternate the products: one week I use [a brand] and the other week I change so that the skin does not get used to the same product and makes it more effective. I have very sensitive skin and in general I try to find products that do not have many chemicals. When I have acne breakouts I like to use Clinique creams.
And at night?
I miss everything! I remove my makeup with two different make-up removers: first one gel and then a wipe. After a toner, then I wash my face with soap, I add another toner and then night cream.
Can it be said then that you are a complete beauty victim?
I do really like fixing my hair myself and putting on makeup myself. It has been so many years now that I have a very good grasp on the technique, I have learned all the tricks from the professionals. The thing I like most to do my makeup is the eyebrows. I take care of myself and it takes me a long time, it relaxes me. It's kind of funny, but I'm super skinny with it. [Mind you,] I don't like a tattoo or anything permanent, just makeup.
"I use this moisturizing body oil that helps prevent stretch marks and alternate it with natural almond oil." Bio Oil Skincare oil. $ 14.99 at Target.
What are your style icons right now?
I really like the Brazilian influencer Camila Coelho. It looks comfortable and divine with anything you wear. I like to follow influencers and brands to be aware of what styles are in fashion, I keep images of ideas for events and I use it a lot to find inspiration.
