When Kimberly Dos Ramos received the call from the Rubí production at the time to see if she wanted to be part of the new version of this successful story that in 2004 starred Bárbara Mori, the actress of Venezuelan origin could not believe it. “I was very excited because I saw Rubí years ago and for me it is a super important novel. And when they told me it was for the character of Maribel and they sent me the story, I was shocked because I was saying, 'My God, this is a challenge, what do I do? I accept it? Do I not accept it? '”, The 27-year-old interpreter, who also currently triumphs on the dance floor of Mira qué baila (Univision), recalls in an interview with People en Español. "Obviously they asked me for my casting, I did it and they told me it was me".
Maribel made me get out of my comfort zone because he is an extremely different character from anything I've done in my career
How did you prepare to give more truth to the disability that your character suffers?
The truth is that it was a blessing because the production helped me a lot by introducing me to Marta, who is a woman that I love and admire. In real life, she somehow lives the Maribel story. Her leg was also amputated and she helped me a lot by telling me about her life experience, her experiences, her emotions … I was able to work with her for two weeks. Besides, on my side, of course, I was also adding little things to the character, such as the posture, their expressions, their way of speaking, of grooming themselves … And that together adds a number of details that help to build the character to enlarge it.
Did you see any of the work that Jacky Bracamontes did in his day?
Yes, I saw the work of Jacky Bracamontes many years ago when Rubí came out, but I was hardly chosen to play the character of Maribel, the truth is that I never looked for any kind of scenes from past history because I did not want to make an exact copy. This Ruby is an updated series and that too I wanted for my character, an updated Maribel.
Maribel left me a great teaching which is to love and respect myself as I am
Comparisons between one version and the other are inevitable …
We are human beings and of course we will always compare one story with another, that is normal, it is acceptable. But I want to tell the public that obviously the important thing here is that they enjoy this new story because it is the basis of the Rubí story from before but it is very up-to-date at the time of now, it has new characters that the previous one did not have, the Both Rubí, Héctor, Alejandro and mine characters undergo transformations on a sentimental and personal level. So it has a little bit of the previous story, but it has a lot of what we as actors are adding to it, so I don't think they will be able to compare it much because it is a completely updated story.

What would you say was the biggest challenge for you in giving life to Maribel?
The biggest challenge for me was definitely feeling in some way the pain that my character has for having lost a leg, for no longer having in some way the same life she had before, how to cope with her life now with a prosthesis, how to. The truth is that expressing all those feelings when speaking and without speaking was also a great challenge that I did with a lot of love and with a lot of dedication.
Maribel and I are two people who have a very big heart
What professional teachings did your participation in this story leave you?
This character at a professional level left me very much. It made me learn and of course grow as an actress. She made me leave my comfort zone because she is an extremely different character to everything I have done in my career and that is greatly appreciated, in addition to leaving me with many friends such as Rodrigo Guirao, José Ron, Camila … In short.
Kimberly Dos Ramos is Maribel
And on a personal level?
On a personal level, he left me a great teaching that is to love and respect myself as I am, to value life, to put my feet on the ground and to love my body as it is because sometimes one is very dissatisfied but no, one has to be satisfied with how one It is and what one does not like to go changing little by little without obsessing.
Do you feel identified in any way with your character?
I feel identified in very few ways. One of them is that Maribel and I are two people who have a very big heart. We both like to help other people and we like to make the rest of the people around us feel good.
Rubí airs Monday through Friday on Univision at 10 pm ET.
