In the past two years, many chain stores have had a difficult time staying afloat. Even due to low sales, many have had to file for bankruptcy and close many of their stores. Many of those stores are our favorites and others that are still open are also facing losses. Companies like Michael Kors, Sears and Kmart have closed dozens of their stores around the country and the list goes on. Recall that recently the iconic shops of Lord & Taylor and Henri Bendel on Fifth Avenue closed their doors, and unfortunately now the same thing happened with another establishment on the famous street.

We are talking about the Tommy Hilfiger flagship store, which closed its doors today. The fabulous four-tier store opened in 2009 and was one of the brand's most important. In addition, the company decided to close its store located on Collins Ave, in Miami Beach.

"In line with our objective of seeking more digital expansion and thus work more for our digital clients, we will focus on creating new experiences for the new generation and new alliances, to keep up with constantly changing shopping habits and preferences", Daniel Grieder, CEO of Tommy Hilfiger, told WWD.com. "We continue to invest in Tommy.com and the constant expansion of wholesale distribution that keeps our customers as the heart of our brand."

With this decision, about 77 employees will be affected in New York, and another 11 in Miami. Luckily, the company is giving them the opportunity to interview to work at other stores in the area.

This is just one more of the establishments that have been closing their doors on the popular avenue of the Big Apple, known for being one of the most popular shopping streets, especially for the thousands of tourists who come to the city every year.
