Yesterday the Miss Universe crown was taken by the Philippine contestant Catriona Gray who burned, so to speak, on the catwalk of the contest held in the city of Bangkok in a sensual red dress designed by Mak Tumang.

The spectacular costume that added even more drama to Miss Philippines' incredible moves in the pageant was a tribute to the active Mayon volcano located on the island of Luzon. Its print had red and orange spots that simulated cone-shaped lava going down the volcano that made its most recent eruption in January this year.

The Filipino designer revealed the details of the “lava dress” on his Instagram account, claiming that the dress was inspired by the Mayón volcano and was named after the mythological heroine Daragang Magayon (meaning “beautiful woman”). Catriona can be considered as the modern Daragang Magayon. She embodies Philippine beauty, intelligence, and burning passion,”Tumang wrote.

The new Miss Universe also expressed her emotion on her Instagram account with photos of the great moment and said that her mother had dreamed that she would win in a red dress when she was only 13 years old. "At that time I didn't think anything about it and today my mom's dream came true."
