He is the makeup artist of the very popular Kendall Jenner and has worked with stars like Eva Longoria and Adriana Lima, as well as serving as the global ambassador for Estée Lauder. This is Víctor Henao, the talented Colombian makeup artist, born in Medellín, who arrived in New York at the age of 8 and is now consolidated as one of the most sought-after makeup artists of the moment. We spoke with the talented artist about his career, the stars he has worked with and the transformative power of makeup.

How did you discover your makeup artist vocation?

All my life I have been an artist. All my life I have painted, taken photographs. I have developed a lot in what is art. It has been very easy for me all my life to develop that part of my mind, of myself.

How did you start your career?

When I was 17 years old I decided that I wanted to start working instead of continuing studying and I started working with Victoria's Secret. It was when VS barely launched her makeup line. In the next 3-4 months I got a job with MAC, developed as an artist, and worked with them for six years. During those years, I worked in all the media, everything that is the Grammy, Fashion Week, photo shoots, red carpets, and there was born love and passion for what makeup is to another level.

How did the opportunity to work with Estée Lauder arise?

In 2012 a friend called me … I applied and since April 2012 I have been working with them as a global brand ambassador. Every day my work with them changes. One day I am in the office talking about trends, another day I am in a laboratory, traveling around the world. Another day I am with Kendall Jenner, with Joan Smalls, with Liu Wen. And for about six months I decided that I wanted to develop more parts of my career and I am working with an agency further developing my freelance world.

What have been the key moments in your career?

There have been many. For example, I did a press conference in Colombia two and a half years ago with MAC that was after the Met gala, the second one by Kendall in which he put on a green dress. I put on makeup and the next day I traveled to Colombia to do the press. At that time it was like one of the most special moments of my career because I returned to Colombia, my whole family saw me on television, in magazines, I was in the newspaper. There are still moments that I think, 'This is so cool!' like [having worked] at the Oscars that I had never been to, like after many years having a cover, how to work with People in Spanish because for me it is so important that people know that I am Latino, immigrant, that my parents They brought this country to fight, to create a different life for me.

What do you like most about your job?

The power that I can have with a woman and the connection that we can have between her way of being, as she sees herself and the power that I have to transform that moment. There are so many different aspects of my work that the truth is that I am living my dream and much more than I dreamed of.

How does your Latin side show in your work?

Even if I'm putting makeup on someone, very naturally or dramatically, my goal is always to keep in mind that women want to be sexy and not 'pretty', pretty. It may be that it comes from my Latin roots. What empowers a woman the most is her sexy side.

What do you like most about the art of makeup?

One of my first memories as a child was to see my mom. He had a vanity, a red boudoir with lights, and I remember watching my mom sit in front of the mirror, taking her time to apply her mask, her base, her shadow, her lipstick. I remember so much about the transformation from being my mom when she sat down to being like a superhero when she stood up. I remember that moment so much because it has been one of the biggest things that has affected my career and the way I work. When I have a woman in front of me, my biggest goal is for her to stand up and feel like a superhero, like she's the most powerful woman in the world.
