A few hours after the death of Cuban hairdresser Oribe Canales was confirmed at the age of 62, dozens of celebrities have expressed their pain and shared their best memories of being the favorite stylist of top models and famous and undoubtedly one of the most influential in the world of beauty in the last 30 years.
As many know, among her most intimate was Jennifer López who has not been slow to share with her more than 83 million followers her farewell message to the hairdresser, influencer and also collaborator of People en español who has referred to as a "Latino Legend"
//www.instagram.com/embed.js When I was 16 I was fascinated by Vogue magazine. I was on the subway looking at all the photos of the supermodels, and I was obsessed with her hair! When I saw a photo that I liked, I looked at who had done [the hairstyle] and it was always someone called Oribe”, she recalled. Years later I was working on my first album. I started working with Benny Medina and he told me that we had to do a photo shoot for the cover and who wanted me to do my hair and makeup. Honestly, I was so new to the industry that I didn't know anyone and I thought back to those times on the [train] 6 and said "Oribe and Kevyn Aucoin."
The singer remembers how Medina, her manager, laughed and agreed to her request.
“I spent the next 10 years at Oribe's side every minute of work. We fell in love with each other. We travel the world together. He and [makeup artist] Scott Barnes helped me become JLo. […] When I was tired he would tell me “you are going to get up and you are going to go out there and be beautiful and fabulous because that is your job”, she shared.
The diva has continued to highlight the stylist's love for her work and how she viewed it as a tool to empower women.
“I could go on and on, but I will only say, with great regret, thanks to a beautiful and sweet man. I will miss you. I love you so much Oribe ?”.
