The Montaner family is mourning the death of Carlitos Rodríguez, one of the cousins of the Venezuelan singer Ricardo Montaner, due to health complications after contracting coronavirus.

The news was released by the same artist on his Instagram account, in which he shared two videos and a photograph of the family moments they lived last year when they met in Spain, the country where Rodríguez lived.

The interpreter of "If I had to choose" recalled how much his cousin liked opera and regretted that it is the elderly who take "the worst part" of the pandemic that is plaguing the entire world.

I keep his image and I remember our last visit to Madrid last year especially to see him and share with him … today a steamroller has fallen on us, it may be better now, but the truth is there are mysteries of God that in our smallness we will never be able to understand… peace”, reads part of the message that Montaner wrote on Instagram.

The previous day, the singer had exhorted his more than 4 million followers on the same platform to be careful, stay at home and with "brotherhood" take care of each other.

Studies in China, South Korea, Italy and the United States have shown that while coronavirus can make people of all ages sick, it is especially dangerous for people over 60, the Washington Post reported.

In Spain, the situation has been complicated among its elderly population. Of some 4,732,000 people living alone in that country, almost half - 43 percent - are over 65, according to reports published in the newspaper El Confidencial.
