In the latest issue of the magazine that you can already get at your kiosk, we introduce you to 4 Latina designers who know how to combine the best of the textile traditions of our countries with an exquisite and modern style like no other, which has made them the most coveted. This week, we introduce you to Carolina Santodomingo, a member of one of the best-known Colombian families and creator of Instagram's most sought-after bags, who has earned her designer title “it” on her own merit. You will see her pieces hang on the arm of Olivia Culpo, Emily Ratajkowski, Jessica Alba and Sofía Vergara are some of her VIP fans.

How were your first steps in the fashion world?

I always dreamed of having my own brand since I was a child. After college I wanted to make bags, I started prototyping and soon realized that I wanted more experience. I started working as an assistant to a bag designer and then continued studying accessories design at FIT and Milan at a shoe design school. After a couple of projects I decided to create my own line. This process, from start to finish, has taken about 10 years of work.

What inspires you to create these wonderful bags?

This fall collection is very melancholic. I was inspired by the colors and textures of the volcanic islands, in particular on the island of Lanzarote (Spain). […] One of the new styles is the Eva Box bag, a small night box with a matte black volcanic stone that holds the strings that carry the voles. The other colors in the collection are natural shades reminiscent of earth, such as burgundy, taupe, and moss green. I am inspired by natural materials and textures, I think this comes a lot from Colombia, where they know how to appreciate their artisans and their crafts and integrate them into the decoration of their houses and their wardrobes.

What is your philosophy as a designer?

I aspire to design versatile bags for modern women. Something you can wear day and night and make traveling easy. My bags are a declaration of intent, something different that you cannot find in any other brand.

With which three adjectives would you describe your accessories?

Timeless, architectural and versatile.

Is it important for you to produce sustainably?

It's very important. All my brand products are made in Italy. I spend a lot of time in Florence working directly with the artisans who make the bags. It is essential for me to have this dialogue with the workers who make the prints and knit my bags. This dynamic is the luxury of producing in Italy with artisans who have generations after generations of knowledge of their trade that they received from their ancestors.
