In one way or another, fashion has always been linked to politics. For decades, some of the most important designers have dressed the first ladies of the most powerful countries and in recent years they have used their talent and fashion shows to speak out for some social cause and even even to express their disagreement with political issues. Those actions have been applauded by many both in the industry and fans. However, this was not the case with the new campaign for the Moschino brand, which designer Jeremy Scott announced on his Instagram account with a somewhat controversial title.

"The only thing illegal about this foreigner is how good she looks," Scott wrote at the bottom of the campaign photo where Gigi Hadid appears dressed in an orange dress from the Moschino fall 2018 collection, a short hair wig and skin painted blue.

It was precisely his comment, which has already been changed, that caused a wave of comments against the designer because the issue of illegal immigrants at the moment is very delicate and sensitive for millions of people.

Some accused him of wanting to make money from the pain of others and even suggested that he better do something useful that really helps immigrants who are being separated from their families at the border.

The designer defended himself by saying that he had actually created the Alien Nation campaign to raise awareness about what's going on.

"The concept of my campaign is to draw attention to the tough stance the US administration has against illegal immigrants," the designer wrote on his Instagram account. “I painted the models in my show and in this campaign as a way to open the discussion about what a foreigner really is. Are they orange, are they blue, yellow, green? Does this really matter? They are our friends, our coworkers, our neighbors, relatives, people we love.”

Even after changing the title of the photo and ensuring that his campaign, in which Kaia Gerber also participates, only seeks to raise awareness about what is happening, many of his followers continued to insult him.
