Selena Gomez surprised her fans when she appeared at the latest edition of the American Music Awards last week with a shorter, platinum blonde mane. The singer entrusted the change to her stylist for seven years, Riawna Capri, and Nikki Lee from the Nine Zero One salon, who baptized the new tone as "Nirvana Blonde".

"It took 9 hours," revealed the stylist. "Like 300 pieces of aluminum foil and 8 bowls of bleach between two stylists working at the same time."

That was not all he revealed about the surprising change. "It was a long process and [it required] patience, doing it in very fine locks, then going back and opening each foil and reapplying [bleach], but all at once," he added.

As a good hair professional, Capri had already tested her patience before. As she told PeopleStyle, the stylist spent 10 hours perfecting Julianne Hough's hair color on her wedding day to keep it healthy.
