When it comes to makeup, there are several experts who, thanks to their incredible talent, have placed themselves at the top. Among those who are currently on the list of the most wanted makeup artists are some Latinos. One of those Hispanics who is putting the name of Latin America is Etienne Ortega. This Mexican, who has developed his career in Los Angeles, is in charge of doing makeup for celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Kris Jenner and Kate Beckinsale, among other greats in Hollywood. We talked to him about his best beauty tip and also about his new project: a shadow palette in collaboration with the Pür brand.
Etienne, how has your Latino culture influenced your career?
My culture has influenced me a lot. When I was little we had the famous novels that are full of glamor. The beautiful women inspired me a lot. But also some colors in my palette, like “adobe, was inspired by the ranch I grew up on. The mud was a mix of red hues and I remember thinking, 'This can be a beautiful shade color.' So I found inspiration in everything.
Do you think there should be no rules in makeup?
I used to go to the MAC counter in the city where I grew up and I remember that the artists always inspired me a lot, all dressed in black with different colors in their eyes and mouth. I think there is a reason why we are makeup artists. Makeup is supposed to be fun and full of creativity, so there's no need to limit yourself to just one color or look. I think it is about showing your personality through makeup and having fun with it.
Why did you choose those colors for your palette?
I chose them knowing that I wanted them to be classic and to stand the test of time, but also to reflect who I am as an artist, as well as the clients I have. In general it is a palette so diverse that any type of woman and man, any skin tone and any race, can use it. It is also very cool because the names of the colors have a lot of meaning in my life. This project is something I put a lot of energy into and am very excited for the world to see.
Why do you think it is ideal for Latinas?
I think it's great for Latinas, but overall it's great for all women. I created this product thinking and inspired by my clients. I have clients from Kardashians / Jenner, Christina Aguilera and Nicki Minaj to my sexy Latina Becky G. In this palette you will find everything you need. You can create beautiful tan looks or wear it for the night with beautiful colors for smokey eyes. It is a perfect combo.
