Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, turns 15 as a Ralph Lauren model and shares what it was like to shoot an ad at full speed and what motivates him to choose a fragrance.

15 years is a long time being the image of a brand, almost a record

It is an honor! For Ralph Lauren it's 15 years, for fragrances it's 10. I started with Polo Black in 2005. It is an honor to be given the responsibility of being the face of such a strong group of fragrances.

How do you identify with the brand?

First, I grew up admiring the brand. I am a polo player, as a child I played polo and its logo is a polo player. Later, the person behind it, Ralph Lauren, is a man I admire a lot, a guy who managed to create an empire out of nothing, with a lot of effort, work and inspiration. And after 15 years with them, one feels part of the family.

How do you choose the cologne you wear at all times?

It depends on how you get up and what you have to do that day. You have different facets and choose how you want to present yourself. It's like 'what am I going to wear? A suit and tie or jeans and a remeira. '

Let's talk about the latest fragrance, Polo Red Intense. What type of man is it designed for?

I am of the idea that fragrances, like clothes, have a lot to do with attitude. I don't think a bag, for example, is for one type of person [but] depends on how you wear it. It is not worn in the same way by Frank Sinatra as Mick Jagger, and it is still a sack. The same thing happens with fragrance. Polo Red Intense has a lot of personality, so you have to put it on and have faith.

What was it like to record the ad with Bruce Webber?

It was amazing because it was 3 days that it seemed to me that we were shooting an action movie, like recording Mission Impossible. And great fun, who doesn't have fun driving a Lamborghini in such a beautiful place? My real profession is playing polo and I spend the day on top of a horse so occasionally doing these things amuses me. I have known Bruce for 15 years and he is one of the best in the world so being able to work with him is fascinating.

Were you driving

Most moments yes. There was a professional who, while I was doing one thing, did some shots from a helicopter to take advantage of the time, but most of the time I managed it.

Do you like risk and speed?

I risk my life almost every day, it is part of what I do. Polo is a very high risk sport, I live from that, it is what touches me almost every day of my life, [so] I suppose I can tell you that I like it.
