Although this Sunday will celebrate her first mother's day, Honduran journalist Satcha Pretto, 35, has learned valuable lessons with her son, Bruce, who turns one year old in July.

News anchorwoman for Despierta América (Univisión) shares her tips here:

1. You have to always follow your instincts: “Every child is born with his little book and that little book is written by his parents. There are things that you can read or consult with pediatricians, with friends, but always in this first year of Bruce's life what has helped me the most is instinct. I know my son. I know when something is not right. That is what guides me.”

2. Learn to cook! “I would have liked to learn to cook before my son was born. I make his meals, but for me it has been difficult because I do not have much experience in the kitchen. I want my home to have breakfasts and dinners together and if I had prepared more, it would be easier”.

3. Breastfeeding creates an amazing bond: Beyond the health benefits of breastfeeding - and helping mom lose weight - breastfeeding creates a beautiful bond. “It has been such a nice sacrifice to breastfeed. I was able to express my milk at work. I feel that it has been a unique bond that I have created with my son through breastfeeding.”

4. Be patient with your baby when his teeth come in: “My son has six teeth already. The four above came out one after another,”says Pretto, who says that the baby woke up crying for a whole month when his teeth were coming out. “We use home remedies like the one Karla [ Martínez] recommended to leave a washcloth with a little bit of chamomile tea in the freezer and put it on at night. Sometimes all they want is for you to hug them.”

5. Take advantage of technology: “I have a wonderful camera. I see when my son wakes up. I speak to him there. I salute you. Over there I contact the babysitter. Occasionally we do Facetime. I have three cameras in the house and I have an application on the phone that I can see everything that happens. That was recommended to me by Ilia [ Calderón]. I can see live how he reacts. When he started to crawl he did so in front of his babysitter. I saw the video and I felt like I had seen it for the first time.”

6. Have fun as if you were a girl: "I come in the afternoon and go for a walk with my son, we play, we go on a field trip to the park, to the Pérez Museum of Contemporary Art."

7. Relax and live in the moment: “You have to enjoy every smile and be in the present. Sometimes you want to take many photos and share with the family, but you have to be there in the here and now with your children, put the phones aside and live in the moment."

Congratulations, Satcha. You are already an expert!
