Mariana Torres could not imagine when José Ron encouraged her to join the ranks of Televisa that years later would end up starring in her first soap opera at the company with the talented Mexican actor. The result of their union? An explosive chemistry that we can see from Monday to Friday on Univision at 8 pm EST, in Ringo, a melodrama that has been among its most watched programs in Hispanic prime time since its premiere.
What does Mariana Torres de Julia Garay have?
It seems to me that I found a lot of similarity in that she is a woman of values who likes to be fair and see for her family and who even puts others before her. That is not the ideal, but many times I do it too, I stop thinking a little about myself to please others, that others are my family and my friends who in the end are my happiness.
What learning did the character leave you?
It is very nice because the journey of the character has also led me to that in my personal life. In the end, learning with Julia, which has also been mine, is to always see for you and not be afraid to say no. Learning to set limits in your life, especially with people because being just pleasing others makes you just not happy in many things. And that was Julia's learning that in the end I have also found it.
How about chemistry on set with José Ron?
The impressive truth. Yes it was a great chemistry. I have known him for a long time, in fact he, I remember perfectly, was one of the first actors that I knew who worked at Televisa and he always said to me 'Mariana, you have to come to this company, it is that you can go here very well'. Like he always threw me a lot of batons and it was great because in my first soap opera on Televisa I had to work with him. He is a great partner, a great actor, generous. It is very easy to work with him because he surrenders, so he opens up to you like some great possibilities as an actress. We had a lot of chemistry. The truth is that even I was surprised. On screen if the chemistry we had as a couple was like magic.
Any funny or uncomfortable anecdote that you can share with us about the recordings?
I had a lot of fun, all the time there was something to laugh about because it was also a very light novel where there was a lot of comedy. My character could not go into comedy as much, but well behind the camera there was always a lot of laughter with Luz Edith Rojas, Jorge Poza… But I don't remember any specific one right now.
Did you expect the success of Ringo?
You always do projects by giving everything with all your heart. I knew it was a great story, with a great text, a great cast and an incredible production taking care of many details and obviously you hope it goes well and you know that it has all the potential for it to be successful; However, success often depends on so many things that one cannot live pending that. What a wonder that it is going well and that people are watching it because it is a 100% family love story where we are also returning as the pride of making those kinds of soap operas where there is no morbid or violence. This is a very nice story so I think that is why it is the success because to begin with there was a lot of chemistry and harmony behind the camera. It is a project where you sit down to enjoy and disconnect for a little while.
Ringo airs at 8 pm ET on Univision.
