iPhone users will be able to sign up to be a nationally-registered organ, eye, and tissue donor on their devices. Apple has teamed up with Donate Life America to bring a donor registration into the Health app in the new iOS 10.

With “just a few taps,” interested donors will learn information on how the process works and be able to sign up.

The registrations will be sent to the National Donate Life Registry managed by Donate Life America. "The ability to quickly and easily become a nationally registered donor enables people to carry their decision with them wherever they go," said Apple.

With thousands of Americans waiting for a lifesaving transplant and a new individual being added to the waiting list every ten minutes, the two companies hope to help save more lives with this easy way to register.

Apple CEO Tim Cook felt inspired by his friend and former boss, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who had difficulty waiting for a liver transplant in 2009. “Watching and seeing him every day, waiting and not knowing - it stuck with me and left an impression that I'll never forget,”Cook told The Associated Press.

This sign-up method will be available this fall with the release of iOS 10.
