Often when we think of personal care treatments - such as massages or facials - we think they are an unnecessary treat. However, personal care like these are part of a routine that helps us to have general well-being.
National Relaxation Day, celebrated on August 15, is the perfect time to restart your personal care routine and help you be happier and healthier.
Here are some tips and relaxation tips from some experts.
1. Make personal care a daily habit. 77% of people in the United States regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress, according to information from Stress.org. Stress can affect your daily life and can sometimes even cause illness. The irony is that the things that cause us such stress - like the fast-paced train of life and the endless demands of daily living - are the same things that keep us from doing something about it. The demands of daily routine make personal care for many of us one of the first things we sacrifice in the absence of time. In my opinion, that is a big mistake for which we end up paying a high cost, so I make an effort to spend time every day no matter what is happening. I do that by taking time for a massage,or to go for a run, walk on the beach or just for my children. The important thing is that we make sure that these things are part of our daily routine”, Joe Magnacca, General Director of Massage Envy.
2. Make the most of the time you take out for yourself. Your own well-being requires taking time out for yourself, so be sure to make the most of that time.
3. With an eye on the total care of your body. “When I talk to my clients about relaxation, I really like being able to explain the importance of total body care. It seems to me that clients can enjoy a complete relaxation experience when they make an appointment for two services in the same visit. This allows massage and skin therapists to enhance the benefits of treatments and focus on providing complete relaxation that benefits the entire body, Diana Durazo, lead esthetician for Massage Envy.
4. Adjust your wellness routine to your stress levels. "Chronic stress can cause an overproduction of the so-called" stress hormones "or cortisol. This can cause insomnia, headaches, and digestive problems. If a person is going through a particularly stressful time, I prefer to recommend that they massage at least once a week if possible. This can help limit the physical effects of stress as it has been proven that regular massages can reduce cortisol levels by achieving more balanced levels, "says Melissa Johnson, massage therapist.
5. Take time to breathe. “Breathing is something that, although obviously we are always doing it, sometimes - especially when we are under a lot of stress - we forget to do it regularly. Taking a moment to pause and do deep breathing exercises will not only naturally relax our muscles but will also help us relax our minds,”Hailey Ostrom, Professional Golfer.
