As if it wasn't hard enough to leave Target without a full cart, the retailer now carries Honest Beauty products after years of only being sold on their own website and at Ulta. The natural product line, founded by actress and mother of two Jessica Alba, arrived at Target on March 26th with over 30 skin-care and makeup products to shop. In celebration of the new partnership, Alba sat down with Chica to talk all things beauty including her favorite tip as a Latina, what new products are coming, and much more.
Why did you decide to bring Honest Beauty to Target?
I decided to bring Honesty Beauty to Target because they've been such great partners. I just love that they are thinking about the guests in different ways. They are looking for more immersive experiences for them and bringing in higher quality products. Honesty Beauty is really about clean beauty that works.
What are your best beauty tips?
Definitely match your shade! Don't wear something that's too dark or too light, shade matching is very important. Don't over-powder; that's something that we all learn when we started wearing makeup. It never looks that good, so only powder where you need to. And definitely wash your face every night.
Are there any beauty tips or tricks that you learned from your Latina roots?
From my Mexican grandmother, yes as a matter of fact. Red Lipstick. It was like her armor. She wore it on her lips, on her cheeks, even on her eyelids. She used that one product, the first one all-in-one stick. I definitely do that same trick.
As the Honest Beauty brand continues to grow, can we expect any new products this year?
Honest Beauty and Target is huge for us and we're so excited that so many people have access to it through Target. Later on this year we are expanding into home cleaning. We're completely revamping our cleaning line.
Where do you get your inspiration from when it comes to Honest Beauty?
I was really inspired by my time in the makeup chair. I've been an actress for 20 years and really wanting high quality and clean beauty products, ones that actually worked. The ones out there, prior to Honest Beauty, made me feel like I was just putting different layers of dirt on my face. It wasn't really like the beauty products that are conventional. To be able to get the payoff that you would get from traditional or conventional makeup but with alternative clean ingredients is really what I was looking for.

With so many clean beauty brands entering the market, what is it about Honest Beauty that you think stands out to consumers?
I don't think there is any other brand that stands by the quality of ingredients that we have. We do have very strict standards and we're completely transparent about what's in our products. Every single ingredient is listed on the packaging. If you go to our website, you can dive even deeper into why we chose certain ingredients versus others.
Who were your beauty icons growing up?
Definitely my mom and my grandmother. My grandmother was the one product everywhere and my mom was the every product everywhere. She would even wear two different shades of rouge for blush and wore five different shades of eyeshadow. She really went for it. I just love that she always played and always had fun with makeup.
Speaking of kids, what beauty advice have you passed on to your daughters?
I really try to emphasize, more than anything is that confidence is beautiful and kindness is beautiful. As long as they walk through life with humility and having empathy, then they'll be great. There's nothing uglier than someone's who is selfish, mean-spirited and mean.
Being an actress, mom and entrepreneur, what beauty lessons did you learn from each of these roles in your life?
Being the actress is probably the most insecure of all the hats that I could wear because so much of your reality is based off of other people's opinions and not your own. Your career is kind of dictated based off of other people's opinions in an industry that at the end of the day doesn't have your back. As an entrepreneur, I just realized how important it is to support other women and to really create an environment where people feel valued and inspired.
