With 113 million followers, Selena Gomez continues her reign as the “Queen of Instagram,” being the most followed person on the photo-sharing app. But this achievement hasn't been a celebratory milestone for the singer, as revealed in her cover story for Vogue.
“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out. It had become so consuming to me,”she said. “I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn't want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn't want to care about. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram.”
The social network addiction led the “Kill Em With Kindness” singer to hit rock bottom and want-as have other celebrities-to get rid of the app from her cell phone in order to find some peace. Now Gomez's assistant is the one who manages the account and publishes her photos.
In 2016, SelGo announced that she would take a break for health reasons and also emotional stability. After canceling more than 30 concerts on her Revival tour, she chose to seek help and find peace in a therapy with six women.
“You have no idea how incredible it felt to just be with six girls…. real people who couldn't give two s **** about who I was, who were fighting for their lives,”she shared. "It was one of the hardest things I've done, but it was the best thing I've done."
Gomez also revealed that she was affected by the transition of being a young star with a young audience - whom she could empower with her messages - to then sing for young adults who drank and smoked in her concerts.
