The increase in coronavirus cases increases daily, particularly in America. It was announced that in the United States the number of people infected has grown exponentially and, to date, totals 92,932 affected with 1,300 deaths; This makes it the most affected country, above China, where the pandemic started. Faced with this threat, residents of the neighboring nation, Mexico, have decided to demonstrate and block the border to prevent them from contracting COVID-19.

"Stay home," said some signs carried by protesters at the Nogales sentry box, which is the entrance from Arizona, United States, to Mexico through Nogales, Sonora. "We demand the closure of the border."

Protesters blocked a checkpoint with some vehicles and asked that US citizens or residents traveling for tourism, medical purposes or to buy groceries not be allowed to enter.

"It is not possible that they are crossing American citizens, countrymen", José Luis Hernández Rivera, leader of the protest to the Mexican newspaper Diario de Sonora. "They are family, they are brothers, but unfortunately in some states of that country this pandemic grows enormously."

This social movement allowed a federal judge in Sonora to grant an amparo that only allows people from the neighboring nation to cross into Nogales, when it comes to essential issues and complying with a strict sanitary procedure.

"What we want is for these measures to be taken because Mexico will not have the economic or infrastructure capacity to solve this problem if the situation worsens," Hernández added to The Arizona Republic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) mentions that the increase in cases with coronavirus in the United States is about to make this nation the new epicenter of the disease; however, it could avoid the increase of contagions by applying the necessary measures.
