Before killing himself in prison, former football player Aaron Hernández confessed to his mother during a visit that he was attracted to men.
"Aaron said, 'Mom, you're going to die without knowing your son well,'" Jonathan Hernandez, brother of the late New England Patriots star, told Dr. Mehmet Oz's show, which he attended on the occasion of the premiere of the documentary Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernández on Netflix. "They had that conversation and they were both in tears."
In the documentary, a former partner of Hernández's in high school claims that they had sexual relations in their teens.
Hernández, who according to his brother was a victim of abuse during his childhood, was arrested in 2013 for the murder of Odin Lloyd, who had a love relationship with the sister of his fiancé, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernández.
At the subsequent trial in 2015, he was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In parallel, the authorities also imputed him as responsible for the deaths of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado in Boston in 2012, whom he allegedly shot for considering that they had disrespected him.
Hernández, who the police are also connecting to at least two other shootings, was found not guilty at trial for the deaths of Abreu and Furtado in April 2017.
Five days later, the guards of the prison where he was serving his sentence found him hanging in his cell from a rope made of sheets. He was 27 years old.
