It's been exactly a week since he found former NFL player Aaron Hernandez hanging from a sheet in a cell at a Massachusetts prison. Since then, dramatic revelations have emerged about the 27-year-old former athlete, who was serving a life sentence.

Authorities confirmed that the inmate left three suicide notes, but they have not revealed their content or who their recipients were. Amid speculation about those notes, the DailyMail reported that one of them was directed at another prisoner in Souza-Baranowski prison with whom he apparently had a relationship.

That information, attributed to sources in the investigation by the newspaper, has been flatly rejected by the family, who on Monday held a private funeral attended by the deceased's 4-year-old daughter.

"[The] rumors of letters to a gay lover, inside or outside the prison, are false," the family's lawyer, José Báez, told TMZ.com. "These are malicious gossip used to stain [the honor] of someone who is dead."

The Mail even published photos of the alleged lover, Kyle Kennedy, of whom he said he was behind bars for an armed assault and that he was also addicted to heroin.

He claimed he was "the last person" to see Hernandez alive before taking his own life and that the former New England Patriots player had given him a watch valued at $ 50,000 shortly before his death.

The suicide notes were found next to an open Bible. According to the Boston Globe, a judge ordered authorities to hand them over to the family.
