According to a study published by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, consuming chili peppers regularly helps reduce the risk of death from heart attacks, and heart and cerebrovascular diseases.

The research revealed that by looking at the participants' diet and health for eight years, their odds of dying from heart problems were reduced by 40 percent when they ate chili peppers four times a week, at a minimum.

“An interesting fact is that protection against the risk of mortality was independent of the type of diet that people followed. In other words, someone can follow a healthy Mediterranean diet, another person can eat less healthy, but for all of them, chili has a protective effect, explained Marialaura Bonaccio, one of the scientists in charge of the research.

The study called Chilli consumption and mortality in Italian adults included the participation of 22,811 men and women in Italy, where hot pepper is one of the most widely used ingredients in a traditional Mediterranean diet.
