A Michigan family mourns after the death of a 4-year-old boy killed by a pit bull. Police are still investigating the possible cause for which the dog attacked him. Shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a 911 call made by a 14-year-old girl. The teenager said a dog was attacking her little brother Benjamin Cobb while his mother was trying to stop the animal, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The mother stabbed the 60-pound dog with scissors and a knife trying to save her son's life, local station WXYZ-9 reported. The pet was not hers, the woman was taking care of the dog for a friend. "The mother was in the room at the time," Brian Buchholz, the Hazel Park police chief, told local reporters. "He heard a loud growl and when he turned around the attack was already happening."
Police officers used a taser pistol to stop the animal, which ran out of the house. The dog was eventually caught and euthanized, according to the local station. The boy's family created a GoFundMe account to help pay for Benjamin's funeral expenses. “On October 29, 2019, we experienced a family's worst nightmare when a dog took Benjamin's life. There are no words to explain the depth of our love for him, "said the family in a message. "This has caused unimaginable harm to our family, our friends, and everyone who knew our noble child." According to the authorities, the case appears to be a tragic accident.
