People en Español Festival makes a triumphant return to New York. The popular cultural event will be held on October 5 and 6 at The Armory, in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. The Armory is located in the heart of the Hispanic community - with 72% of Latino residents - and inspired the acclaimed and award-winning musical In The Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda, which is considered a love letter to the Latino community in the New York City.
Festival - Meredith Corp.'s largest consumer event and largest free live experience of its kind - will celebrate history and culture through live content and experiences curated by our editors. This year's program will include in-depth conversations with community leaders and celebrities, music performances, and empowerment activities.
This year the Festival theme, “Together we are more,” will highlight Latino contributions to the culture and future of the United States. People en Español will use Festival as a platform to motivate the Hispanic community and boost civic participation and electoral awareness for the crucial election of 2020. The program will focus on the importance of the Hispanic voter and on the voice of each person. be heard, particularly that of younger Latinos.
“The studies we carry out at People en Español continue to show that the Hispanic community in the US feels 100% Latino and 100% American, and that duality is what we are going to celebrate with Festival. As the number 1 Hispanic brand, it is our duty to inform, inspire and motivate, as well as entertaining, and we are excited and honored that the Festival serves as a base to celebrate our culture, communities and agents of change, says Monique Manso, director of People in spanish. “Today it is clearer than ever that the voices and contributions of Latinos to this country are significant and cannot be erased or ignored. It is our duty to reclaim that safe space so that we can remember our accomplishments while preparing the ground for the future. Especially as we enlist to have a powerful impact on the 2020 election.”
This year also marks the first collaboration with Twitter. For the first time, People en Español will work with the social network and give advertisers the opportunity to engage with Hispanic consumers through Festival content on Twitter. Coca-Cola, HBO Latino, Macy's and US Army return as Festival sponsors, and The Home Depot joins for the first time.
We will soon be announcing that celebrities will be participating this year in the event, which in past years has featured presentations by Demi Lovato, Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, Alejandro Fernández, Daddy Yankee and Prince Royce, among other artists.
