Almost 25 years after her tragic death, singer Selena Quintanilla continues to be the Queen of Tex-Mex and an idol in her native Corpus Christi, TX. To honor her, the community of Molina where she grew up unveiled this week a new multi-colored mural created by New York artist San Singuenza. The new mural replaces another painted by high school students in the area after the singer's murder in 1995, which was already in disrepair.

The new work is made up of three images of the singer with the message: "The goal is not to live forever …. If not to create something that will", together with Selena's signature. According to various Texas media, this new project was funded by the Quintanilla family and powered by a community resident.

“Selena has always been the muse for my art. The music, her smile, the way she adored her fans and how she conducted herself, fills me with joy and inspiration, Singuenza said in a statement. “It is a legacy that continues to inspire many of us. I hope my art embodies everything and that and helps her legacy be as vibrant as she is.”

For its part, the Quintanilla family expressed their satisfaction with this new mural and continue the legacy of the unforgettable performer.

"We are extremely excited to bring everyone together to create this beautiful mural of Selena," the family said online.

Selena's image and music continue alive through different projects led by her older sister, Suzette Quintanilla. In April, the song “Dreaming of You” was included in the Netflix movie Someone Great starring Gina Rodríguez.
