After a year of recognition and media attention, the cultural impact of Alfonso Cuarón's award-winning film, Rome, is also being felt in a more permanent way: in the state of Mexico this year, a total of 46 girls have been named in honor to the protagonist of the film, Yalitza Aparicio. Specifically in the state of Oaxaca, 19 were reported with the name Yalitza Aparicio.

The state government registered an increase in newborns baptized Yalitza beginning in February, the month the actress was nominated for an Academy Award. In March alone, 13 girls were named Yalitza by their parents in the state.

Regina Cayetano and Narciso de Loma Vicente Guerrero in Jiquipilco named their daughter Yalitza because of their admiration for the actress, who they hope will become an example for their daughter.

The director of the Oaxaca Civil Registry, Cristian Hernández Fuentes announced that most of these registrations have been made in the area of the Isthmus of Tehuatepec.

"We believe it is because of the fame, admiration or pride that many families have in having a countrywoman so famous that she has managed to achieve her dreams," said Hernández.
