Just a couple of days after the baby that was ripped from Marlen Ochoa-López in Chicago died, sources in that Illinois city have declared the minor's death a homicide.

This was announced by spokesmen for the Cook County coroner's office after the death of Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, who had been hospitalized for almost two months, on Friday. The newborn was taken there by paramedics and in the company of the alleged author of the crime, who apparently pretended to be the mother of the child.

According to what was reported, the baby died due to a lack of oxygen in the brain and the presence of blood in it; in addition to prolapse of the umbilical cord and the placenta due to "assault against the mother" as reported by the Chicago Tribune newspaper.

The shocking crime shook public opinion after the disappearance of the 19-year-old Mexican American woman who apparently was led under deception to the home occupied by Clarisa Figueroa, 46, and her daughter Desiree Figueroa, 24 in South Chicago.

According to police sources, the woman reportedly suffocated Ochoa-López while her daughter was distracting her. Later they removed the creature from the womb and threw its lifeless body in the trash.

On May 15, their remains were located by the police, leading to the capture of the two suspects and the boyfriend of one of them, Piotr Bobak, 40, who is accused of hiding the murder.

The coroner confirmed the cause of death as strangulation and now the three suspects face multiple serious charges.

"The baby not only died, the baby was murdered and we demand justice," Frank Ávila, the lawyer representing the Marlen Ochoa-López family, told ABC-7. "Of course the baby died of natural causes, but those natural causes were caused to the brain by the mother's suffocation. That was murder, and murder charges must be brought [to suspects].”
