Butler County, Kansas police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old baby who died this Saturday after her mother left her locked inside her car. The mother now declares that she went to her house to take a nap and that when she woke up she remembered that she had left the girl in the vehicle.
The events happened around 4:30 pm local time, when the minor's mother called 911 asking for help because her daughter was not breathing. Immediately, paramedics moved to the area but apparently the girl died at the scene, according to the local chain KAKE-TV.
The woman confessed to authorities that around 12:30 pm she had returned from a baby shower and that she forgot the baby when she went home to take a nap.
"She said she was very tired," said Kelly Herzet, Butler County Sheriff. "He said he had been getting up all night. I don't know if it's because he was with children or for what reason, but he felt like he needed a nap. She went to bed around 12:30 pm and fell asleep until 4:00 in the afternoon.”
The girl's death becomes the 11th death of a minor locked in a car, according to statistics from the KidsandCars.org site. This portal always recommends checking the rear seats of the vehicles to make sure that no one has been left inside.
"It is a tragedy," says Sheriff Herzet. "That a three-month-old girl dies, even if it is at the hands of someone or in a car, is still a girl."
The case occurs just days after 11-month- old girl Joseline Eichelberger died in St. Louis, Missouri, after being locked in her parents' car for more than 16 hours.
