Baby Dies After Being Left Inside Hot Car

Police in California recently arrested the mother of a two-year-old girl who died after being left alone in a car. The car had the heat on and the baby was covered in the vehicle with a blanket for almost five hours, PEOPLE confirmed.

Authorities have yet to reveal the name of the mother, who could face charges for the death of her daughter June Love Agosto. The little girl died on September 23 after being found unconscious inside the car, which was parked in the West Carson area.

The girl was rushed to the hospital, where they could not revive her. The mother allegedly told police that around 11 p.m. on September 21, she left the girl with her seat belt on, a blanket and the heater on inside the car, which also had its windows closed, according to the police report.

The woman allegedly told officers that she was drinking alcohol with a friend in the car parked next to the vehicle where she left the girl. The mother eventually fell asleep inside her friend's car, the authorities report detailed. The mother added that she woke up five hours later and when she opened the door of her car she noticed that the girl had vomited. The baby also showed burns on her face, chest, and arms.

Police allege that the mother put the baby on the grass and wet her with a hose to try to remove the heat. Upon arrival of the rescue team, paramedics noted that the girl had a body temperature of 107.5 degrees.

The baby's grandmother, Helen Hernández, spoke to FOX 11 and said that her granddaughter had just celebrated her second birthday. "She was my only granddaughter," lamented Hernández. “June Love was a beautiful baby, she deserved a good life. She deserved to be able to grow up and go to school.” The family created a GoFundMe account asking for donations to help pay for the girl's funeral. Rest in peace.
