Father Dies Saving His 5-year-old Daughter From Dog Attack

A father of two children died in Iowa after trying to save his daughter from the attack of a dog that had bitten the youngest 5-year-old in the face.

"At 10:31 am -local time- the Fort Madison Department Police was called for the attack of a dog in the vicinity of the old Iowa federal prison, 102 Ave. C, in the city of Fort Madison", It was said through an official statement issued by networks.

"When officers arrived at the scene, they found a huge dog attacking a man lying on his back on the grass in the front yard of the house," the report continued. "The dog was very aggressive and would not let go. The officers had to drop a gun to stop the dog from attacking it."

The man was identified as Robert Joseph Quick, 33.

Quick was rushed to the Fort Madison hospital where, despite the "enormous efforts" of medical personnel, he died.

For her part, the child under the age of 5 was treated by paramedics at the scene and appears to be recovering.

Although the police stated through said statement that the "exact cause of his death" was still under investigation, his family assures that Quick died of a "cardiac arrest" that he suffered at the scene. This information was made public through the GoFundMe page that the family established to request help for the cost of funerals.

According to Madison police, the dog did not belong to the Quick family, but they had it in their care to help a relative.
